Would one of those towing "guides" that holds the front tires in the air be suitable to tow a 911 (in neutral) or would it mess up the gearbox?

Assume you are referring to a tow dolly. I have towed many Porsches with one. I prefer it to a trailer as the load is more stable in my opinion. As you say, neutral and p. brake off.

I have towed a 914 with same 901 trans 1000 miles. Many other shorter tows. Not to worry, unless it is a sportomatic, then tow backwards.

The problem you will find is that if you have your car lowered, you might be dragging the rear end. And the tow dollys usually have a ball hitch on the center of the dolly that will crush the front of your car when you roll it up (ask me how I know).

I think I used a tow dolly with the car on it backwards. Looked funny in the rear view mirror.
Good luck David Duffield |
