Recaro seat installation question...

I've just bought a Recaro SR for the 911.

It doesn't have a mounting rail and I haven't yet stuck my head under the existing seat, but my theory was to remove the current seat and then separate the sliders from it. I'd attach (adapt) the sliders to fit the Recaro and then bolt it back into the 911.

Do I need to go buy the proper seat rails or can I just adapt the existing ones that came with the factory seat?

Thanks in advance to those who've BTDT.

My SRD's bolted right in with the stock rails... no worries. I can't imagine your's being different, unless you have electric seats... Then you need the rails or some mods...

yup, just unbolt the runners from the car (do the front bolt first, then slide it way forward to get to the rear), then pull the seat out and remove the sliders from the seat. Reverse the process to install the Recaro.

Thanks, guys! Sounds pretty easy, just like I hoped.

I'm getting the seat re-trimmed, probably in some kind of Black Alcantra (or Escaine or other such synthetic Suede), but I'm going to trial-fit it this weekend.

At some point in 911 history, all locking/sliding rails became part of the seat...welded together, and not detachable. I have an 87 and this is the case. You may have to buy sliders separate then attach them. Not a big deal.

If you have power seats ( even if manual fore-aft)..there might be a big vertical triangular piece that needs to be ground off in the middle of each slider..it's part of the lever-point to allow tilt.. We had to do this for a friend that re-used the stock sliders off of an 85 Carrera.

Ok, a follow-up: I fitted this seat into my '76 Coupe yesterday.

I was amazed how easy it was to install this seat - no joke. It's 4 x 10mm bolts holding the seat rail to the floor and then 4 x 4.5mm hex heads to remove the slider/rail from the original seat. The Recaro was basically made to accept the 911's sliders!

No photos as of yet, but I'll post a few once I get this seat trimmed to suit. I've decided against the Alcantera, it's going to be just too "different".

As far as feedback on the seat? Well, with the Recaro SR and the Momo wheel, the "go-kart" factor has skyrocketed. This thing is so much more fun to drive now.

Thanks again for the tips, guys!
