Have you pulled the distributor?

I found the problem of the engine. Was a big, big and big scratch on the upper side of the cylinder #3. It measures like 3/8" width and 3" long. Appears to be made by a big forreing particle located on the upper side piston skirt. I replace the piston and the cylinder for a good used one from the same weight group that I have in stock. No damage to the rings so I use the same ones. The others cylinder looks good. Also I re-oil the cylinders and know the engine rotates like new. I install new head gaskets and install and torque the heads assembly. I will need some gaskets and blue loctite, I will finish and install the engine in the Porsche this week.

Do you know what caused the damage?

Also, that sounds like some serious scoring to not have resulted in some damage to the rings. Are you *sure* they're OK? The last thing you want to do is to have to go back in and replace rings. It seems to me they'd be cheap insurance, given the circumstances.

Loose piston pin retaining ring made gouge? Were both retaining rings in the piston? Jim

All the pistons circlips was in their places and all the rings was brand new 0 miles rings brought from Pelican Parts.

I would attempt to locate the "foreign particle"; I would guess a steel washer. Jim

Hello guys:

Today I finish the engine. Installed in the car. The things that I dont installed was the C.V. joints axels because is a lot of work to do if I need to teardown the engine "AGAIN"and the a/c compressor (not installed in its base). I take the coil-to-distributor cap cable and put in spark plug spark checker and check for a spark. Connect the battery, check the fuel lines leaks. Start the engine for 30 seconds. Oil pressure rise, reconnect the coil-to-distributor cap cable, set the ignition (using "eye" setting) and start the engine....the RESULTS: 1) The engine start from one key turn!!! (Awesome).... 2) A lot of smoke from the oil that I use to lubricate the cylinders and pistons (appears like a BBQ). 3) The engine sounds good and loud, appears recuperate the lost of horsepower. What more to do: 1) Install the C.V joints axels to the tranny 2) Put the a/c compressor in place with a new belt 3) Take the car out from the jacks stands. 4) Take the car to a ride 5) Go for my little brother and give him $10 for wash the car 5) And wait for the owner of the car come back from Spain with some pay:D

So did you ever find out what caused the engine to seize in the first place? From the findings in the cylinder it seems there was a foreign object in there. Where did it come from and more importantly, where is it now? It would be a real bummer to have to tear down the engine again for the same problem.
