Acc. console repair: partial engine drop?
I'm planning on rebuilding the accelerator console behind the engine, replace bushings, ball sockets, linkage rods, etc.
it seems like a ***** to get back there, i have the right tools but it looks like it's going to be a back-breaker. would i be better off doing a partial engine drop to gain access.... what is involved? never done a partial engine drop before. thanks thanks. |
What type of car do you have? I can get mine out with 74 CIS. It's only 3 nut and pop of a ball joint on my car, I don't think it's worth the partial drop.

I would attack with 13mm short socket, universal joint, and extension, and I think you will be able to get it without much trouble. One of the nuts holds down a support for the CIS airbox though, so make sure you feel around to see how that fits in so you can replace it correctly. You can always decide to do a partial drop if that turns out to be too tough!

I rebuilt mine on my 79sc without dropping the engine. Just remove what ever is easy to remove, air filter, hoses whatever, then place a small mirror against the fire wall and tape it into position so you can see what your working on without hurting your back.
It's not that hard, just takes a little time, good luck. |
