Porsche air compressor

After reading the few threads about flat tires. I went out and tested my original 1987 air compressor that came with the car. I could not get it to work. Yes the cigarette lighter works and I did have the key turned on. Does anybody have any suggestions. thanks, Jerry Baer

I have a similar problem with a '92 compressor. when I plug it in it blows the fuse on the cig. lighter circuit. obviously there is a short somewhere but I started to pry the two halves apart and I felt like I was going to break it. Any hints?

TIA

Buy a pair of alligator clips, replace the cigarrette lighter connector and connect the compressor directly from the battery. I have the same compressor and it blows the fuse of the cigarette lighter. With the alligator clips no more problems.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm selling the car so a working compressor would be best, but that would work in a pinch...

Thanks,

OK the alligator clips will work for KobaltBlau, but what about my situation. My compressor does not work at all. Is there a fuse or relay or something that can be changed in the compressor? thanks,

yogi, I'm not sure if my '92 compressor is like your '87. I think so, Intermatic in a black box? I don't know of any fuses or relays to replace, because I haven't been able to open up the thing.

I'm still interested... has anyone else opened up one of these and repaired it?

Thanks again,

What type of compressor is it? is the black box type or the cream colored one. If it's the black box, pry it open and check the electrical connections on the switch. They sometimes loose connection.

This compressors are very similar to those that sell at $10 at Pep Boys, Wal Mart, Wester Auto, etc. Open it and try to find one similar cheap compressor and fiz it in the Porsche compressor box.

Just the obvious....Check all the solder joints at the switch and power input. That switch is not the best quality.

OK I fixed mine. I have the black box air pump. I pried it apart with a screw driver. The tabs are in the exact middle of all four sides. I looked first at my switch and it looked fine, and was hooked up to both wires. Then I noticed a small spring out of place. I looked around and saw one small spring in place. So I put this adjacent to it on the other side using a small screw driver. I then put it back together and took it out to the car. I plugged it in and turned it on and it worked.
