A/C condensor Question
I know this has been posted before about how the A/C sucks in 80's pcars, but, I spoke to TRE and I want to improve mine. I have a ROW car with some kind of Italian A/C system, it has a really small rear deck lid condensor (its only on the right half of the deck lid and isn't finned to the extent other ones are that I've seen. TRE told me to look for a 1986 or newer 3 pass condensor. What is that? Is it three layers of piping or one pipe that goes in and "S" pattern three times across the condensor (come to think of it, I should have asked TRE for the answer. I want to find one of these, and perhaps add a front or front wheel well condensor. TRE will build me a system for $2,300 which is way out of my budget, so if I can find a few used condensors (front and rear), I may get some satisfaction. Anyone got a 3 pass condensor they want to sell? I posted in the used parts section a WTB for one. I have a Seiko compressor and a Kuehl-type left rear fan-powered condensor as well. I know I'll need to make up new hoses. If I can do this for a few hundred, I will, but not $2,300.

Hi Hugh,
Don't know if you also check the Rennlist forum but there is a good thread going right now on AC's. Someone sited this link: http://www.griffiths.com/porsche/ac/911ac/index.htm#Condensers There's a lot of good Porsche AC info on there and the project ice they did is pretty amazing but I'm sure it's high dollar. Let us know what you come up with. The AC in my 88 coupe has been out so long I forget I have it! Mark |
Hugh, I'll see if I can find a picture of a 964/993 condensor, it is a tripple pass condensor. It has quite a bit of surface area in a compact design.

I have the complete A/C system out of my '87 if any parts will help you out (less hoses- cut'em). I can bring down to LA mid-July to save shipping if you like. spdy356-911@yahoo.com |
