Instrument Light Question

I'm thinking coincidence, but maybe not.

Just installed a set of H4's (relay is on the way...) and the instrument lights are now at about half the brightness they used to be.

It's across the board, not individual instrument lights. I'm thinking just replace the headlight switch. Am I off base here? Would the H4's have caused a failing switch to go as well?

TIA

Problem could be with the electrical portion of the ignition switch or the headlamp switch, or both ... or, it could be with corrosion on a Faston connector! I suggest testing for Voltage drop across the igntion and headlamp switch ... before deciding to replace parts by 'shotgunning!'

Rheostat dims them down to nothing, but only brings them back to about half the brightness they used to be, but it's hardly a smooth transition; there's a couple spots the lights go out completely which is why I'm leaning towards the switch.

It wasn't a straight cause-effect thing i.e. install of the headlights and dimming occurred at the same time, they were normal for a couple evening runs then this started.

Not really planning on shotgunning anything ('cept maybe a beer...), troubleshooting is half the fun.
