lowering '95 993
What is involved in lowering a '95 993? Someone told me that you can lower an inch removing spacers. I was under the impression that new springs were necessary.
What is the ideal amount to lower? What is involved? If springs, what are some recommendations? What are the benefits performance-wise?...I know it will look better. Thanks in advance! G-Funk

This is covered ad nauseum on Rennlist. Basically, it's a question of how much you want to spend. For the bare minimum lowering job, you need lowering springs. Eibach or H&R will run you $300-$400. If you DIY the install, you only need to pay for an alignment afterwards and then you're there. So maybe $600 total.
Since stock 993 shocks totally suck and wear out in about 20k miles, there's no point in putting new lowering springs on stock shocks (like PO did to mine). I got a set of new Bilstein HD's for $1000 shipped, Marcesq and I installed them last weekend and I had the car aligned last week. Now my car is set up about as well as is possible, looks awesome and handles super. Total for shocks and alignment was around $1300 and shock install took about 6 hrs. For about $2200 (parts only) you can get the Bilstein PSS-9 set up, which comes with lowering springs and damper adjustment switches. If you have a pro shop install and align for you, you're looking at probably $3k minimum. Then there's the MO30 Euro ride set-up. I don't know much about this one, but I think it's basically the stock suspension from the Euro-spec. 993's along with new sway bars. BTW, Rennlist's favorite vendor is a guy in Belgium who has some pretty off the wall parts. His Bilstein HD's actually have a few more threads on them than the ones you can get here in the US, so you can adjust more for harshness or ride height.

Here's the install...
And here's what you have to do to fit the brake line back into the shock. Why did they design it like this? If you don't cut this piece, then you have to open the brake line and of course then bleed the system. This makes all that unecessary and also makes future caliper removal much easier. And here's what it looks like with an H&R spring on it. And here's what a lowered 993 looks like. Oh, and don't even think about doing any of this unless you get 18" wheels, preferably with 285's in the rear .

Perfectly suitable for aggressive street or weekend track driving. Lowers car from 1" to 2" from stock. This kit also allows full corner balancing and the use of factory adjustable anti-roll bars. There is a huge debate over which is better the PS9s or these H&Rs. IMHO the H&R are better, and cheaper! You dont have to get the special spring plates, etc. This is my old 993 lowered with the H&R kit.
