Headlights
Can I change my headlight rings to the thinner ones or will the car look funny? Also will I need to replace the Lens/housing itself if I do go with the smaller rings?
Thanks

OK...so no one is answering this poor guy...
Actually, most of what you want is in the archives..do a search on "H4" lights or "Bosch H4", "Hella H4", "headlights", etc.... The wide rim...I like to call "sugar scoop", is for US markets. The "aero" looking lenses with the narrow trim band can be H1, H4 or H5 lights. H1 uses 2 separate bulbs in each housing and is very expensive and rare to find today. The 1988 US cars came with aero-looking H5's that have a terrible light pattern and may even have a different socket. Try using Euro , Bosch H4's. They come in either chrome or black ring configuration....in either case you can opt for additional paintable trim rings that can be placed over these. To do the conversion, you need to remove the headlight you have in its entirety as well as the structure in the bucket that holds the US style lens. From that point on...you simply add the Bosch H4's..snap over the top body flange..and use one bolt through the bottom . Again, search the archives for specific installation details. ---Wil

I'll second the recommendation for the Bosch H4's. Very easy to install and provide excellent lighting.

Thanks for the response. I hate those wide rimmed lights, they throw off the 911's sleek look.
For some reason, I always thought that the H4 H5 ... designation only had to do with the bulb. Now I feel like an idiot! ![]() Thanks |
