Cis Questions
I recently bought a 1981 sc with about 50,000 miles. Runs great most of the time, however I have a couple of questions:
1. When it's first started it idles pretty high, around 1800. Then as it warms up it starts oscilating between 900 and 1800. This goes away after its driven for a few minutes, then it idles around 800 or 900. Is this normal? 2. If I drive the car to the store or where ever and leave it parked for 30 minutes - 1 hour it starts up but will stall if i dont give it some gas. It will continue to stall if i let the rpm come down too fast at a light. But will stay running if i slowly let the rpms fall. I know this isnt right but i'm not sure what it is. here's a pic http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1088546771.jpg |
Sounds like the WUR (warm up regulator), but Hey, what do I know!?
|
i vote WUR reg too!
get the CIS tester gauges, and we can find out for sure. damn nice car. lovin the 81SC lately! |
What the others said, plus your mixture may be too rich. This could be because of the WUR, or it could just be set wrong.

I had a simular problem, adjusted the mixture about an 1/8 turn ( if that)counterclockwise and it went away after a couple of days of hard driving.

thanks gus, ill try that
|
WUR cold control pressure is off. And, your idle mix is off.
|
thanks to everyone who responded, it seems to have been the mixture, and with 1/8 turn ccw no more stalling.

Run some chemtool B-12 in you tank a few times. It will clean up the fuel system. Make sure you don't have any rust or garbage in the tank. The WUR is also a good place to start.
