Gas tank plug tool
The plug on the bottom of my gas tank is a 22.5mm allen hex. Besides the fact that Porsche dreaned up this size where can I get the tool for the plug?
Thanks, 83' 930 turbo |

brent, i made one by double nutting a bolt and two-nuts combo. then any regular bread and butter box wrench handled the job. for about $3.00. screw buying one, you will probably need that size twice in your lifetime.

Me too me too!
I used a short bolt with a nut jambed on it real tight. Worked slick. Can't remember if it was 7/8" head, that sounds about right. |

I got the hardware and had to sand down the bolt head from 23.7mm to 22mm. It should work and will know when I get home from work.

7/8" allen wrench, but I've used the bolt method also.

The modified bolt fits like a glove and works good. Now I have another question? Is it over kill to have both a filter at the tank and one in the rear before the fuel distributor? Any known problems with the fine screen getting clogged and causing a problem?
Thanks |

With a CIS fuel system there is no such thing as too many fuel filters
. Keep both of them. Jim

Removing that plug befuddled me for a moment until I started digging around in my tool box and came out w/ a spark plug socket. The male hex shape on the outside of a standard plug socket fits that plug perfectly, then a 3/8 extension through the inside of it turns it.
Didn't have to buy a thing. Wish I had a picture, am I making this clear enough?

That's cool, could have just cut the end off and there you have it. Already spent $2 on hardware and did the sanding but great idea. Since I changed my fuel pumps last year I used my old front one to get the gas out before removing the plug.
