Mixture Adjustment - Removing Tamper Proof Plug
I need to adjust the idle mixture on my 1982 SC. The tamper-proof plug is still in place. The instructions are to drill it and use a self-tapping screw to remove. Looks to me like I'll have to lower the engine a bit to do the drilling, even with a right angle drill adapter. Anyone know any tricks to make this any easier?
Thanks, Scott |
You might try one of the 45 or 90-degree drill bit adapters that Harbor sells to reduce the clearance needed. I think you will still need to do a partial drop, though.

In case someone searches in the future, here is the resolution.
I was able to do this without lowering the engine with a pen vise, small drill bits, and a fair amount of patience. After removing airbox cover and CIS boot, I started with a small bit, turning by hand. Worked up to larger bits. Tried to remove plug by threading self-tapping screw into hole and pulling, but it was very stuck. Ended up just drilling all the way through and enlarging hole enough for 3 mm allen. |
