911 carrera s barn find

I got a 911 carrera s for 6k it's from 79 I believe, the previous owner added a custom rear fenders and a turbo. The engine has been removed of all fluids. I live in Portland and would love to see this running. I got it for $6,000. If I don't want to go thorough all the problems with the engine, would I be able to resell for the same price or even more or am I out of luck?

Welcome to the forum!

I recommend you post some pictures (exterior, interior, engine bay, frunk) and that will help others help you.

You can check out the used parts classifieds to get an idea on how parts/shells are classified. $6k for a complete roller sounds reasonable unless there's major damage or the "custom" work was poorly done.

Two adages I learned shortly after buying my basket-case Targa years ago:

- There's nothing more expensive than a cheap Porsche.

- Don't buy a Porsche unless you can afford two.

Best of luck!

What made you buy this car?
What is your goal?

I know porshes are getting more expensive and I found this in the area that I work. I think that it has potential yet I'm worried that it won't run.

I want the car to run and maybe have it resold for a little more if possible.

I suggest you get the VIN number and look it up to be sure what model/year Porsche you have. That mirror is not a flag mirror from a 79. Maybe 74 through 77, but if you're lucky, maybe it was a 73 or earlier that someone modified with the bellows bumpers.

It appears to be a 1975 911S 49 state version.

Your best bet for adding value to the car is to get it drivable. Engine, tires, gas. Read about clearing fuel system.

Are you qualified? If not, Take it to a pro. This is a business venture. Spend some money to make money. You might need a few bucks to get it running, but it will then be worth a lot more.

Once running, get it detailed. Then decide from there about flip, improve more, or keep.

I do see that a turbo insignia is on the deck lid and you mention it has a turbo engine, maybe post a picture of the engine and its number too. If it has an actual Porsche turbo engine in there, you probably got a great deal.

Post as many pics as you possibly can to get feedback and prioritization.

Be prepared to spend a small fortune at this point. Gearbox can easily be 7 to 10k to freshen it up. Engine could be double that depending. Suspension, brakes, electrical... 5k and up. I bought a nice one and I'm still throwing money at it.

Any idea how long that has been sitting without fluids?

Are those steel rear flares? (I see what looks like rust, but also what could be cracked fiberglass in that first pic.)

More pics, please!

Hmmmm....from the surface that looks like it might become quite the project. Looks like real steel flares, but the cracking in the paint has me puzzled (maybe some body filler to smooth the welded addition?).
