1985 European 911 Cabriolet with a 3.0 ???
I called a guy about a 1985 911 Cabriolet he had for sale, he claimed the origianal owner had brought it over from Germany. He said it has a 3.0 liter engine, when I told him I thought they put a 3.2 liter in the 85's he said the "European" Cabriolet models got a 3.0. None of my buyers guides show a 3.0 liter in an 85 so I'm guessing the motor has been swapped or he doesn't know what he's talking about. Once I go look I'll be able to confirm the engine size. Anyway, does anyone have experience with these "European" models, are they difficult to insure or anything else I need to have a heads up on?

All 85s came with the 3.2l motor. Like you said it could be a bastard with a 3.0 swapped in or the owner does not know what he is talking about.
When you look at the car get the VIN and post it here to comfirm it is really a euro car.

Only one 911 Cabriolet had a 3 liter engine and that was the 1983 model year 911 SC Cabrio. That was the first model year for a 911 Cabriolet.
A 1985 model 911 Cabrio should have a 3.2 engine. Other tell tale signs for an 85 are: radio antenna integrated in the windshield, highback front seats with electric height adjustment, four spoke steering wheel and of course the letter "F" in the VIN which indicates model year 1985. |

My 83 euro cab has ZZZ in the vin number.
Also check the engine number and type. 83 3.0 US = 930/16 83 3.0 ROW = 930/10 The only problem I found with a Euro car is confusion. My car had some wrong Fuel injection parts installed because the PO's mechanic was confused. Long story. Unless you think it's something special and you can work on it yourself a bastard set up may cost you. In my case it lead to the PO getting frustrated and selling the car to me. It was cheap but cost me a lot of time and $$ trying to sort it out! Good luck I hope for you it's a stock 3.2

Get the engine number to see whether it is a 3.0L or a 3.2. The last 3.0L engines numbers have a "D" at the third spot.

I have an 84 euro cab, and all is well. If it's correct it will have a 3.2 and more hp than an american car of the same year, 200 vs 220 or 230. I haven't for one second regretted buying mine! Just make sure to get a good ppi on it before you buy, those guys can tell you exactly what's amiss.
