I am thinking about purchasing a short throw shifter for my 911 with the 915 trans. Does anyone know of a good aftermarket or a another OEM solution.

Here's an excellent thread of short shifters. Short shift kits shorten tranny(915) life?
Installation: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_short_shift_tindel/911_short_shift_kit_install.htm The search feature will return many hits on this subject.

Nick, I just went thru this on my 3.2 w 915 RS clone. After much searching here on Pelican and talking with other 915 guys I decided to go with the OEM short shift kit. Best move I made, absolutely flawless and very precise. Wayne's guys told me to purchase the bushing kit also (4 bushings) which ended up saving me a lot of headaches in the installation. All the bushings were worn and when the new ones are installed the set-up is about 3 minutes ! Purchased both kits from our host, Steve

I went through this already, I got the factory short shift, lovingly blueprinted it by hand and after a few months got rid of it.
The short shift will increase the amount of force it will take to shift gears, it won't make shifting faster or better. Even though I really wanted it to. If you want to improve the shifting of your 915 try changing the tranny fluid then replace all the bushings in the shifter and the linkage. If you want to go further, try an aircraft style coupler like stomski (sp) or wevo. If your in the mood to spend some money on your baby you can then get a wevo shifter. It might be the best shifter out there. If I had it to do all over again I would have taken the money I spent on the factory short shift and put it against a wevo. This is just an opinion based on what helped my car, other people may have had different results, Good luck |

The factory short shifter decreases the throws, which I like. It does not allow you to shift faster because the 915 is not a fast shifting transmission. I am glad I put the fast shifter in. You just need to remember to slow it up a little when you are shifting when pushing the car hard.
