Oh, those non-Porsche people

Some people love the p-car, some don't car, a few really hate it that I have one and they don't. Here's what happened this week:

Passed a car in the "fast" lane of a 4 lane highway. He was in an 80's something Chevy. As I passed a hand came out the window and flipped me off. He thought I was going to zoom on by and forget it but instead I pulled into his lane after I passed him and slowed down slowly. I think I scared the crap out him. He wouldn't even pass when I got down to 30mph...just stayed back by 5-10 car lengths. I wasn't in a hurry and there wasn't any other traffic so I held it there for a few minutes.

Kinda cracked me up. He'll think twice before he flips another car the bird.

Your response seems dangerous and provocative of road rage; I would not recommend this to any driver. Forgive and forget, I realize that there are a lot of bad drivers on the road that I have to deal with.

You forgot childish...it still cracked me up. He provoked me and my response was within the confines of the law. Like I said, he may think twice next time.

Actually your response was way outside the law. You were driving recklessly, endangering others, breaking the minimum speed limit, harrassing, inciting road rage, etc. etc.

I have nothing against you personally, but the guy could easily have been carrying a gun or just run you off the road. I'd follow the advice above.

Be careful out there. People can be mean. Porsche drivers on the other hand only get mean in the Off-Topic Forum.

I naturally drive pretty fast...but only due to the fact that my job requires me to be in many different locations, all within a short period of time.

Yesterday, I was cruising back from up north on Southbound I-5 going about 100 which is certainly doable and safe in the 911. Some cat in a Dodge Neon felt that he had to tag along and show the Porsche a thing or two... so he tailgates me for awhile, hanging with me to show that he is bad...I got over to let him pass and he cranks the little Neon up to its max speed of 110 and goes past me... I keep behind him a safe distance and sure enough he almost lost control of the car and swerved into the opposite lane... but kept on going at 110. Kinda dangerous to push a car like that to its limits.

Maybe you should think twice next time. What you did was foolish and worse than what he did. All he did was insult you. You deliberately created an unsafe situation that endangered both of you. This is exactly what the road rage law intends to prevent. You broke the law my friend. It doesn't make any difference who started it.

One should be allowed to have a little fun once in a while, but in this case it's on the borderline.

Sorry americans, but you seem to have the largest amount of nutcases in the western world. Also you have LOADS of guns floating around.

In such a nation I'd prefer to keep a low profile.

I don't even toot my horn at people anymore, its just not worth it.

I learnt my lesson a few years back when someone cut me off (badly nearly off the road) and I gave him a toot and my friend yelled something out the window.

Next set of lights I saw him get out, and come towards me, I put up my window and forgot to put up my friends window. He unfortuantly copped a punch in the face.

Stupid meatheads.

I see you're all assuming the speed limit was 55, 65, or 75. On this stretch of highway it's only 40 mph. Going 30 is definately within the limits of the law. As far as driving recklessly, what is reckless about passing, getting ahead of a car by 1/4 mile and then slowing (not standing on the brake mind you)? I was that far ahead of him when it occurred to me, what happens if I slow down to let him pass?

I think you're all imagining that I burned by him, cut in front of him almost clipping his fender and then stood on the brakes all the while doing 90mph. Not the case.

its the natural reaction - well, it is for me, been there done it.

but i have to agree with the others. more and more nowadays you're likely to do it to the wrong person and regret it.

i've witnessed some pretty outrageous driving. like a car scaring te ***** out of a cyclist in a bus lane, a guy driving down the wrong side of a road - with a barrier down the middle and no escape.

In Florida you would have gotten shot at for that! Man just let it go. You got nothing to prove to a guy like that. Like YOU were the one in the Porsche! Road rage is a BAD thing. You may have though it fun and cute but HE obviously took it seriously and was a afraid of being shot at himself. Scared people do really stupid things ...like shoot first.

Just smile and wave next time. That usually throws them off balance.

Wave a gun out the window?? hmmm, let's imagine a sequence of events here.

driver A flips driver B off, the equivalent of saying "I'm a dumbazz, don't you think". So in reaction to driver A admitting, publicly his stupidity driver B thinks, "hmmm, I can top that!" Driver B then waves a hand gun out the window!! Driver A not being the smartest (he told you that already) thinks, "I can top that, I'll fire off some rounds out of my window." Results, driver B or innocent bystander is injured, maimed, killed by driver A's bullets and/or driver B's car as it carrene's (sp) out of control, driver A and driver B have both proven that they are idiots, all is right with the world. I think we've all learned a lesson here:

When somebody flips you off while driving just shoot 'em!!

Why is it that people's first response has to be aggression or vengeance? I think our world could use a little more temperance. Glad to see most people here agree.

Randy, was that you in the black SUV last night? Nice driving.
Hand guns & road rage are SOP around here. If somebody does something to me on the road I get away real fast like. If I can't, I smile & wave like some kind of dumb ass.

Actually,

No. I was the guy in the Red 911 sitting in the middle of the intersection of SE 8th and 405 onramp, dead. Busted leg so I can't push it out of the way, had to call buddies from work. Was bummimg cuz I missed the run with you guys last saturday, but luckily it quit when it did. On a weekend, I'd be SOL.

All in the same day, dead furnace, leaky hot water tank, emergency trip to Longview and a CDI failure in the 911.

Should've never gotten out of bed.

Now, to Squire's Bellevue to pay my $$$.

Mikkel, you are RIGHT ON. That's how I look at it - fly below the radar, as much as it's possible in a 911. And if some ********* wants to play games, that's what the 911 on the cell phone is for.
