finished with cosmetic improvements for the year.. what do you think?

ok well last year she was... well.. in vee dub terms..'so-cal'ed'

and we all know the infamous rear update..

and this year.. well...

and now with talbots...

so with my cosmetic changes for the year complete, this begs to ask.. better or worse?

912R tail lights are among my plans for next year..

got the ones with the coined ended bolts. then i went to sears and got some longer bolts.

ok heres how it goes.. you put the stand on, put the bolts through.. then put the bullet on the stand (glass has to be off to mount mirror anyways)

have a friend hold the end of the bolts on the inside of the door with a long socket or nut driver.. while you put nuts on the other end inside the bullet.. use washers on the inside f the car and before the nut, naturalich.. tighten down.. put mirror lense on.. vola! stock holes will fit. just get the coinded ended one.. and buy longer bolts..

better pic of one of the mirrors.. terable pic of car..

i got the yellow ones b/c of the contrast. (and everyone else has whit,.. i stick out more )

what i did was just hunted ebay for several mos at all the different kinds out there, til i found the set i wanted. these are carrellos.. the orginal hella lights will cost 300+ for a good pair..

100 for the pair. had the mounts custom made (the mounts for swb cars are super rare, and the mounts for the lwb wont fit.. mount to the body through the batterey boxes.. we only have one per side on swb cars.. lwb cars have 2..) the mounts cost about 200 for my mechanic (a 356 restorer) to make (99%labor).

i was gonna say looks more rallye car than anything. (im trying to pay hommage to the 912's rallye roots and going a little outlaw.... since thats the only form of motorsports it was used in).
i need to beef up the suspension a bit, and drop her.. (although i like the rallye car looks.. the paris dakar ride height on mine has gotta go.. lol)

No question that the proper rear end looks sooo much better on your car. Very nice car & love the color too.

Harry thanks for taking of those horrible mirrors what a diffrence it makes to change the bumper and mirrors on a car. Looks great and love the colour.

Cheers,

thanks guys, i really appreciate it. the updated **** was from my highschool days.. cheep and crappy and didnt look right.. after seeing all these great looking early cars about 2 years ago i jjust had to get rid of that crap. just never got around to it til last fall when little by little i started bringing her back.. but i still wanted to be outlaw so i had to go that route. now i just need to drop her and start putting her on a diet... (and the slope begins..)
and im putting money aside each pay check just for a rebuild.. i want to go with a fully mapped, ballanced monster nine dozen (using a 912 engine.. not a type 4), that can make 140hp and can still be reliable. i figure it will take me two years of serious saving.. maybe 3. did the top end on her this spring to correct all the probs that went wrong durring last years trip.. i figure it will last me at least another 2 or 3 since the bottom is still tight.

Dan,

yes.. im nuts.. im driving all the way out to cali again for the 912 rendezvous. thing is its in monterey this year. but im planning on stopping in so cal for a night before i head up. (probably around sb or san luis obispo.. not sure yet.)

Jon,

i can see morril tower and the top of the shoe from my house. i live right across 315 from it near the corner of kenny and kinnear. we should meet up when youre in twon and grab a beer.

If you are headed to the West coast you can enjoy our high Dead density out here. BTW, I spotted 2 911s at the COlumbia Meadows show. Thanks for posting your pics. I like the color.

actually im thinking of taking one of them and making a grill badge.

Bob,

i put it on originally b/c i liked the look of the rear reflector and i liked the sc body style.. but the old school really grew on me after 2 years. that and i realized it looked cheep and cheezy.
