The Batmobile at Calder -- video!

Some relatives are visiting from Northern California. I took the more courageous relatives for two-lap fun rides in the RSR replica -- my first on-track dalliance with the new rig.

How does the new car compare to the '74 Carrera 2.7? Well, I was able to lap the track in 1m 13s with a 100kg passenger while driving at 7/10ths. And that was my 6th tour of the track in the new car!

The best I could do -- and with great familiarity -- in the '74 at 9/10ths was a 1:13.100

If you'd like to download an MPEG of a lap of Calder in the RSR, then click on the link below!

That sound reminds me of Le Mans.

Sounds wild on the track, Matt!

That must sound exactly like a scalded cat cause my cat was sitting calmly across from me until I played the video. It jumped off the seat and slinked away like the bats of hell were coming after it. What a hoot!

the sound is awesome. Surely you must be able to make real slick video of your track excursions... more noise please.

Matt,

That thing sounds wicked! Loved that glimpse of the 10k rpm tach, too!

Can you refresh our memory on the specs of the motor? Also, what muffler / exhaust are you running? It is MFI, right?

Thanks,

JA

Thanks for the glowing feedback, guys!

Dave,

We just cobbled together some sloppy footage to make that clip -- we'd like to make something ultra slick, but we'd have to invest in some exterior and interior camera mounts, which aren't cheap. Hopefully one day we'll be able to do it!

JA,

The engine is a twin plug, MFI 2.9 with 50mm MoTeC throttle bodies, 12:1 pistons, 'S' cams, and solid rocker arms, all of which sends air out a 4", single outlet Monty.

Wow... what a car!

What are the chances I could get you to take a picture of that muffler? Do you know if it is custom, or where it was purchased?

Thanks again,

JA

Cool video Matt, car looks & sounds great.

Was that a PCV day at Calder?

or

Can you pay for track time there?

I'm thinking of doing another circuit racing course later in the year, and wanted to know if there are any tracks where you can just practice on the wekends etc.

Are you taking your car to presidents day later in the Year?

Matt,

As always, nice vid. But will that car not be in open class?

You need to lose one fat passenger and 13 seconds a lap.

Aussie,

You can pay to play any Wednesday of the week at Calder. I think it's about $170 all day.
