Charcoal Cannister ????

Does this thing ever need replacement? I'm getting pretty strong gas fumes outside the car, but I can't find a leak. I know that the tank vents thru the cannister..could the cannister be the issue. Do these things go bad?

The charcoal generally doesn't wear out; I suspect you have a disconnected or broken vent hose/line or vapor collection cannister somewhere. Start by looking up front. Jim

Would have to second that. The lines running from front to back get pretty old and cracked.

I also have a fume problem with my 3.2 conversion. The PO put the charcoal canister and vent in the smugglers box. This put the fumes into the ventilation system. My car is smog exemt, so I lost the canister, and put the vent line up into the filler area. This put the fumes right outside the drivers window. They get worse at stoplights on hot days.
Did you do your own 3.6 swap? Do you have all the appropriate tank, cap, cannister, and lines for a 3.6?
I think I'm going to have to try and duplicate the stock system, unless someone has an easy solution.

either put the canister back in (which will completely solve the problem) or vent to the wheel well

For the sake of the environment (even if only a small sake), put it back in and run the lines properly.
