Lifting a Carerra with a jack plate

I have a 1988 Carerra that I'm getting ready to pull all the wheels off to get some new tires mounted. I'm going to put new brake pads on while I'm at it.

Does anyone know if you can lift one side of the car high enough to put jack stands under it when using a jack plate? The reason I'd like to use the jack plate is because my car will need to stay on the jack stands for a couple of days and my garage isn't deep enough to put the car in and also be able to manipulate a floor jack behind it.

Thanks for any info.

Depends on the jack. A "high lift" jack will certainly do the job.

The jack will lift high enough. I'm wondering about any undue stress on either the jack plate or from "tipping" the car that much.

Should be no problem. If you have the small jack stands it doesn't need much height. If you have big jack stands, you will need a big jack. It all scales ...

What I am saying is: If you have a small jack, don't use the big jack stands, otherwise all other combinations will work.

Yes, the only real constraint is the jack...unless of course you had severely corroded jacking points...then all bets are off...which an '88 in AZ certainly should not have.

Cool Jacked up.....

No sweat, I do it all the time on my '80 SC coupe. Simply lift one side, place the jack stands and then go to the other side. Piece of cake! The jack that I use is a 2 1/2 ton floor jack that I bought at an autoparts store several years ago. The lift range on it is from about 4-5" up to about 20". The best thing about using a lift plate is that it leaves the best spots for the jack stands free and clear.

Good Luck!
