Engine Shroud for 77 911 3.0 ROW

Just wondering what other 911 engine shrouds I can replace mine with? Mine is not in bad shape but I think would be a good idea to change in the next year or two.

If I pull the motor, how difficult would it be to switch? Any special tools required? Do I need to replace any gaskets? Please no while you were in there? I don't need any other ideas to ponder.

Thanks,

David

Hi Ronin,

Maybe I am describing the wrong thing. The plastic piece that the fan shroud goes into. Whatever that is called. Mine looks fine but where the fan shroud connects this plastic thing, some of the holes in the plastic have broken through basically reducing the number of bolts holding the fan shroud on. Mine is orange/red plastic. I don't care if the color is different, just wondering if others will fit.

Sorry for the confusion,

David

That's it. I apologize. I am thinking it can't be an easy replacement but with winter being so long, it should be doable.

Thanks again,

David

personally it's a delicate connector area. a little to much screw torque and it gets damaged. I'd custom build a real metal ring and epoxy the unit together.

Good idea if I am thinking what you are thinking. Make a metal ring that somehow I connect to the Air guide and have the connecting bolts run through that and into the the shroud. How do I connect plastic to metal strip?

You can put the ring over the plastic, with the holes aligned, and use it as a clamp.

probably anything flexable like silicone gasket material. All you want is for the ring to stay attached to the air guide while your putting in the screws.

Epoxy would work pretty well. You just need to prep the surface, make sure you sand the metal raw and clean up the plastic as much as you can and you can get a great bond.

yep.. that was my first thought.. but it's expensive to start with new epoxy materials.. the silicone is cheap.
