Removing Carrera Emblem?

I have an 87 Carrera and would like to remove the original emblem because the PO installed the Carrera tail and the emblem is up too high on the decklid.

This is the original Carrera emblem - I have read that the best way is to heat the area up with a blow drier and use dental floss?

Is this really the best way? Will it come off easily without much residue?

thanks.

Use dental floss then remove the residue with WD40.

Yep, all of the above...

Don't be surprised if you have to lightly go over the area (and surround) with a very fine polish.

I did this on my 993 and installed the silver 911 badge. But the "Carrers" still appears in sunlight. Residue is all gone, but I'd like the shadow to go away. How?

Richard,

You have to make the rest of the lid look as good as the untouched area from under the emblem....or... the other way around :)

That's why I recommended a fine polish to rub out and minimize the difference. Same thing happens when changing over from flag style mirrors to the smaller footprint Aero style.

I had the same issue on my Boxster. I used Oil Flo to get rid of the adhesive and most of the shadow, then some 3M hand glaze to remove the rest of the shadow. Any good polish should help with the shadow.

3M Perfect-it III machine glaze (fine swirl mark remover) running 1500 rpm using a 3M fine polish foam pad. Keep the surface wet with compound.

Depending on when the emblem was placed on after the tail was painted, it may never come out...
