Smile Color suggestions wanted

Hi all,

I have an -72 Targa that has been "updated" by PO. I'm thinking about backdating the car using fiberglass parts from rennspeed.

Questions:
1. Is it tooo unorthodox to put -73 RS bumpers and a ducktail on a targa?

2. Any comments regarding RennSpeed's products?

3. Colorsuggestions? I want to stay with a color that is typical for the 70's... It's is now white and has previous been red, aubergine and yellow (that's the colors I've found so far...)

Suggestions and pictures are more the welcome!

/Christian

I think some of those pastel-esque earth tones look great on early cars, like the orange above and some yellows and reddish colors, but if you're going RS style something like Gulf Blue with Orange might look great too. I think with the RS look and ducktail you can pull off a louder color.

1. No, a number of people have done it and the look is nice.

2. No experience with RennSpeed. You might check for other posts using the search function.

3. It depends on your preferences. I'd recommend colors that are interesting. Aubergine is nice, but so are some of the yellows, oranges, blues and greens. Do you know what colors are available from the early 70's? Here's a thread from the Early S Registry that has some paint samples to help you decide.

Best wishes on your early car project.

I would love to ultimately do a 1972 or 73 long hood Targa with RSR fiberglass panels and a ducktail. Maybe do some internal stiffening at the rockers/door bottoms aka widebody and his cab. Color preferences being 1. Viper Green 2. Tangerine 3. Signal Yellow

It's a goal...

Yellow rocks! With my 77, which has the front bumper smile, people often comment (favorably) on how happy the car looks.

Signal yellow! You have remarkable luck. You can return the car to its original color, and the original color was fantastic. If I could wave a magic wand and turn my burgundy to signal yellow I surely would.

Rennspeed.... I have bought from them twice. Peter is a super nice guy and the quality has been good. You may check out pictures of Jack Olsens Black Beauty II (there are plenty) because all of his parts minus the hood I believe came from Rennspeed.

Just remember that fiberglass will need some work to fit properly.

Many beautiful pics of beautiful cars but.... I still haven't seen any Targa with RS bumpers and ducktail. Anyone? If it is signal yellow it's a bonus...

Colors are sooo much in the eyes of the beholder, and you almost can't go wrong (excuse me, but I think that Sepia Brown is just WRONG). My preference is for the bright colors, Viper Green, Signal Yellow, Tangerine.

But here's a thread on the early911S site that has a LOT of colors of cars on it. Browse and enjoy!!

There are a lot of great colors to choose from. I think the 'period' colors really work well on the older cars. It's hard to make one of these cars look bad with paint alone. Here are my favorites:

Sepia Brown (415)

Olive (414)

Leaf Green (6830)

VW Silver Metallic (936)

Viper Green (dont know the paint code offhand)

Signal Orange (????)

I think this is Continental Orange (????)

Signal Yellow (????)

Don't forget BBI Black (????)
