What sounds like a cat being dropped in a wood chipper...sorry cat owners

When I turn on the fan in my 81' SC I get a screaming sound. It sounds like....OOOOOOOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Is that an easy fix or a big dash-puller type fix.

Mike

Oops wrong fan....

This is the bearing in the main blower. You might be able to lube it, but just try running it for awhile, it whould subside. Mine used to do that just at startup then quieted down. Now it doesn't do it unless it REALLY cold... then only when first turned on. How long since you had the blower running?

Cat in a woodchipper would sound more like:

"Meow-WUFFP-tscht-tscht-tscht-tscht"

My cat would eat that woodchipper for breakfast...and still have room for a chainsaw for lunch.

Open the front hood and remove the (card board?) cover and you'll see the blower assembly, remove some ducts and lube the blower. Gives you a chance to clean out the area, mine had alot of leaves and debris. Mine hasn't squeeled since.

I lubed mine (73 911) and a few days later the whine came back. If it's shot, may have to replace the motor.

Silverresety911S what did you use to lube yours?

You'll probably just need to replace the motor. lubing it is probably just a temp fix.

Thanks - seems almost fixed

The fan will hold settings 1 and 2 OK. If I put it on 3, it will run for 2 seconds and then die. I guess I'll stick to fan speeds one and two

A few years ago I replaced my motor, after having lubed it for some time. I went to a Bosch distributor and paid a lot less for just the motor, as opposed to paying a whopping sum for the whole assembly from the dealer.
