Help with out of state purchase
I just agreed upon purchasing a 73 rs clone set up for the track, but the problem is the owner is in Maine, and I'm in California. Does anyone here have any advice on a fair and safe way for us to exchange the cash and car without putting either of us in too much risk?
TIA, chris |

Merde! I am in Maine and did not see this car. Nice find! ![]() I would suggest an escrow service. The only one I use is https://www.escrow.com/index.asp Beware others - they may be fake. Mark

You are not going to see it in person? I would arrange for shipment and fly there, inspect the car, pay the man, and load it on the transport. The roundtrip airfare may save a lot of heartache...
Or, a fellow Pelican can act as an inspector and middleman with the money... Good luck -

Thomas has a good idea there. You can fly to Manchester, NH on Southwest for a couple hundred bucks round trip. The buyer (assuming he is in southern Maine) could pick you up. Don't fly into Portland - much more expensive.

There are plenty of people on this board whom I would trust with this transaction, both to inspect the car as well as to handle the transfer of funds.
An alternative is to send a bank check to the shop performing the PPI. Assuming everything checks out, the shop gives the check to the owner who then hands over the signed title. The car is then stored at the shop until the transporter picks it up. I think both of these methods minimize the risk of buying a car long distance, sight unseen. But there's still no substitue for laying your own eyeballs on a car. |

Im curious about the registation process. Is it difficult? costly? I know is a '72, so emissions shouldnt be a problem right?

emissions shouldn't be a problem due to year, but I plan on making it a track car, so I most likely won't register it anyway.
