Palomar Mountain Fun-Run dates?
I would like to formally invite the SoCal canyon carvers in joining Mark Hargett (Natchamp) and me for a Porsche get-together and drive up to Palomar Mountain. There are a lot of good roads out in the east county with very little traffic in the mornings. We will meet at the Starbucks off Twin Oaks Valley Rd in San Marcos. Plans are to arrive at around 7:30 and be on the road by 8:00 AM. I have mapped a good route that will take us on some twisty and scenic roads to the mountain. Once we get to the top, we can have a quick brunch at Mother's Kitchen and then take a tour of the observatory. Provided we leave Starbucks by 8:00 AM, we should arrive at the Mother's Kitchen by 10:00 and be at the observatory around 11:00. Maybe sooner, depending on how fast we drive. :) We can even continue driving out to the town of Julian depending on time and if there's enough interest. The next two Sundays are good candidates for the run -- the 18th or the 25th of July.
Here's a screenshot of the planned route: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1089402251.jpg Anyone interested? Please post your thoughts here. Thanks! |
What an awesome drive! A couple years ago my wife had a conference in San Diego, so I took the rented Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder up Mt. Palomar. One of my best drives ever!
The front tires had very worn shoulders when I turned the car back in. |
Hi Brian,
Thats always a great drive. Im up for it next weekend (18th). Patrick |
Excellent! Sounds like a blast. Either of the Sunday's work for me. There's got to be a few San Diegan'ish Pelicanites out there, the more the merrier. I'll see if Tom Woodford wants to bring his rally 914 out and play. The Beast is running pretty good too so it'll be good to take her out.

It will be a blast. Mark, I'm really looking forward to seeing your car now that you have the Garretts installed.
Here are some pictures I took last weekend while testing the roads. :) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1089484571.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1089484581.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1089484599.jpg Non P-cars are welcome too. A friend of mine might bring his '03 M3. I told him we wouldn't be waiting up for him though. :D |
Your car is looking very nice Brian.
|
That looks like a great run, been on most with my Pcar. Next weekend sounds good, the following is an AX for me at the Q.

I would love to join you guys, but I am heading to Korea/Japan on the 17th.
Take and post lots of pictures. |
Mark,
Yes been here for 18 years, WOW you've done alot of work on the car! I'd love to see it, I live near Kit Carson Park off of Peet lane. Hope to see you soon. |
Rick,
Yes, that was me on BBRun II. We met up at the very same Starbucks, didn't we? It'll be good to see you again. It looks like you've done a lot to your car since I last saw it. So far it looks like the 18th is the date and we have: Patrick Mark Rick myself It's too bad you can't make it stone. I'll be bringing my camera and taking as many photos as I can! |
Yep same Starbuck's, should be fun. I might have to run home early 12-1:00pm, picking daughter up from camp.

Hey I got another to add to the list. He's another local buddy that has an 87 Carrera. Anyone else is still envited!
