Octane, Gap on a 70T

Before anyone gets miffed, I DID a search. Seems like there are alot more mid-year engine threads on this topic. My P Mechanic suggested a larger gap from stock. PP send me the cold plugs fpr the T, but he said I should run them with more gap to "make up" for today's gas. So here's my question:
I live at sea level and I drive a 70T with the wussy stock T engine inc. CDI and stock coil.
What octane ( brand even ) would you suggest and at what gap would probably do better for short commutes ( < 15 min ) to work every day?

TIA
michael

p.s.
Maybe a forum just for early 911 would make the searches more relevant. I always search first, but sometimes a topic has grown stale and newer technology is available.
