Brake booster gone bad?

new to me '85 carrera TL needs mucho more effort to stop than my '86 non-turbo look. i'm think'n my brake booster is at fault cause when i start the car with my foot on the brake there isn't any change in feel so my question is what fails in the booster and can it be repaired or must it be replaced? tonight i plan on inspecting the vacuum line that runs from the booster to the connector but where else downstream should i look for possible leaks? Also if bad do the carrera's and Turbo-looks share the same booster? tia.
