Fan and housing (Aluminum??)

I have a 78sc 3.0 I took the fan and housing off to powdercoat them. The fan has a broken blade and the housing is cracked. They feel like aluminum but I heard some were magnesium. Are mine alum?? If so I can get them welded and the fan rebalanced.

They are magnesium. I don't believe they can be repaired but mine has a pretty good size chip missing from one of the blades and it runs just fine. If you didn't have overheating problems it may not be an issue.

It does not overheat I was concerned about it being out of balance and causing the bearings to fail in the alternator.

I'm not thinking it's worth the risk of getting them welded. If having them powder coated some have stated that they should be heated to de-gas the mag before oating.

Vertex is manufacturing and selling Aluminum fan housings...the price is high, but still cheaper than the oem ones. I hate to give any credit to PPs competitior, but they are doing aluminum ones...
