Cheap B@stard
I have decided that (with the help of my wife's constant scrutiny of my finances) to for go anymore upgrades for the next year & spend my extra (very little) cash on track time. That doesn't mean I can't still try & upgrade little things.
Tonight I made a gas pedal, went by the salvage yard & bought a piece of scrap for $4 ![]() Cut it out & fitted it. ![]() Painted & installed it. ![]() ![]() This weekend I hope to fab up some 993 style air deflectors for my front rotors, then next week make a foot rest. I will probable make some new aluminum floorboards as well.

Paul - that's great stuff. "Cheap." Nothing's cheap about being resourceful. Good work, man!

Where are all these people I keep reading about in the newspapers who are so stretched on time? Man, if I had time to even go to a junkyard, then that would make my day!

It is made of aluminum. Wayne, I am in the field this week at work, so I was able to stop by the salvage yard on my break. It took less then 2 hours to make. Test drove with it last night & it did make some difference. I need practice, which is tough to do on the street. My first DE is next weekend.

Then don't do your first DE - track time is like crack - once you take a hit - you want more and more (not that I have ever tried crack, but can only imagine!)

Jeremy, my debut is next weekend. My local PCA has 4 DEs a year, but there are some other clubs that I can go out with. I've heard the Alfa guys have openings & let you time your laps. Ideally I'd like to do 3 or 4 events this year & maybe 8 to 10 events next year.

That's nice -- looks like it oughtta be perfectly functional. I'm sure you'll let us know how it works, right?

Paul:
I've done exactly the same thing. Works great. I even used nylon sleeves to place my plate a little closer to my foot. To others....why wouldn't it pass tech? Is the Wingfoot at $100+ the only thing that you think would?? It was the cost of the Wingfoot that similarly assualted my sense of value...regardless of how good it is. --Wil |
