It's PowerDVD and my 30 minute free trial just expired! I guess I'm going to have to pony up for the full version .....

I'm surprised to see rear window wipers on 911 race cars.

Great pictures! Funny how Ferrari 512s and Porsche 917s make a small car like a 914 look like and SUV.

It was a US spec car that he had shipped to CA after filming.

Very cool, thanks Curt. I cant imagine being one of those 911 drivers back then and seeing the 917LH coming up in my rear view mirror!
It is amazing how big the 917's seem to be until you park a 911 next to them.

Wasn't that part of the allure of Le Mans? I mean, I thought the cars that competed in the race had to have a passenger seat (a purely token gesture inside a 917) and a spare wheel. In essence, it was a romantic theory that these cars were road-capable.

I love all the stuff you see in the background. The Ferrari 275 GTB next to the Ferrari van, the Aston Martin in the first photo. The 911 with the rear wiper is not one of the race cars.

LeMan's races used to have to carry tools & a spare tire to change a flat tire on the track.

Jerry Kroeger

My fav though is not here. It's the GT40 Ford street car you see stuck in traffic trying to get into the race. The year before one of it's sister cars had won the race.

Yeah, I almost did a frame capture of that GT40, but was trying to limit it to 911's only. Very cool!
