Odometer after failure?
Hi all,
Just wondering what the appropriate action would be when replacing an odometer in our P-cars that has been broken for a while. I'd like the replacement to reflect the actual miles on the car, but how is this done? Is there a certified shop that will reset one's odometer? Those of you who have replaced yours....what did you do? Just not worry about what's showing on the clock? Thanks, 78sc

certified shops will not reset the mileage. that would be considered illegal tampering.

So then a guy would just have to live with the numbers on the replacement odo if he wanted to say legal? Seems like doing that would misrepresent the car also.
Surely there's got to be some proceedure/process for replacing the odometer on these cars. 78sc

buy a new one, or a used one with the correct mileage and keep the records. but how would you know the correct mileage if it's been broken a long time? you could only guess.

I have a broken odometer in my car and I have been keeping records of fuel mileage but it is strictly estimates. I am most likely never going to sell. Besides my car is pushing 179,000 miles so I don't think the odometer matters too much in my case.

Yep, I guess record keeping will have to do.
By the way, wanted to say thanks to folks all the great posts on this board. I've learned a ton of info here. I've had my car for just over a year now and never want to stop driving it. I find myself thinking up excuses to go to town just so I can drive it again! :-) And of course...here's a pic. ![]()
