Fuchs center-cap logo painting?

I'm looking at my little center-cap logos, and they look like ... well, they look like they've been exposed to the elements for 20 years with no care at all.

I know that I can send them to Al Reed, who has a wonderful wife that will make them look better than new, and the price is a bargain even after shipping.

But I'm crazy, and want to do it myself. (stubborn glare at dissenters) The biggest difficulty seems to be sourcing paint -- where do you find just exactly the right colors of red and yellow? Are modellers paints too delicate for the job? Any hints or tips from the guys who've done this deed themselves? Is there any good way to make them silver so they match with all silvered rims, or is it best to keep them black? Opinions are more than welcome here; I'll discard all the ones I don't like anyway.

TIA,

Dan

I know that there are at least two threads on this board from people that described how to paint the caps yourself. Including pics and paint choices. A search should bring them up.

I painted mine as well a while back but then I ran across a guy selling the actual crests that are the same size as the embossed crests in the cap.

I epoxied them on and they look awesome. I think I bought all 4 for 22 bucks or so.

I bought little bottles of Krylon paint from KMart for about $3 per bottle. Gold, Red, Black and Clear coat. The whole cost with brushes was about $25 and it looks very good. Colors are perfectly matched to the Porsche Crest on the front hood. This was one year ago and colors still look good.

You're right, Kurt -- Schrup in fact asked almost the same question, just worded differently enough that I didn't find it. Tnx. (blushing at my lack of search-skillz)

Jester911,

Can you give us the source for the crests you bought?
