1978 911sc won't keep running
 

Has any one had this problem before?

My trusty 911sc was put in a dry garage for 10 days while I was away. I returned, the car fired after turning over several times, ran for a few seconds, increased revs automatically and then stopped. It now will start for a short time and then stop.

Up to this point the car has been reliable, the previous owner replace the fuel pump 2 years ago.

Maybe you have sediment of gunk in your fuel tank that settled to the bottom and was sucked up by the fuel pump. Have you checked the fuel filter?

did the popoff valve pop off? pull the air filter to see.

I get the feeling the ten day storage has nothing to do with it. The only reason I'm responding is because when I first read the question I fell right into the storage part. Ten days doesn't seem long enough to matter unless someone was messing with it.

Hi all,

So far I have checked the following:

Emptied tank, good fuel and no sediment, tank filter was clean.

Checked main filter, a little drop of water but clear.

Pump is running and lots of pressure, goes off scale on my inline meter!

Pop off is closed.

Seems to only runn due to the warm up fuel supply.

My thoughts at this stage is that the metering flap is not opening to operate the injector flow control, i can manually push it up with the ignition on and hear the pump kick in and the injectors spray. Should this be tight to push up/ it seems like the fuel pressure wants to push it down?

Has anyone got an expoded view of this device(fuel Distributer) so I can understand how it works?

after downloading the bosch manual for k jetronic, I decided it was in the regulator somewhere, either WUR or main regulator on the fuel dist. Pulled out the reg in the fuel dist first and found a bit of water had caused corrosion and siezed the regulator spool. Cleaned out- runs perfect.

The small amount of water in the fuel had caused the problem after sitting for 10 days!
