damaged caliper dust seal?
I damaged one of my dust seals installing new front pads... basically a small cut in the seal from the backing plate of the pad.
Do I need to rebuild the caliper due to this damage? The caliper isn't leaking, so can I just put on a new dust seal (e.g. steal from the rebuild kit)? TIA. Rgds, TT

Depending on the damage, try a dab of silicone glue over the tear. Replacement is okay too.

Thanks Sherwood. I went ahead and rebuilt both front calipers. I was intimidated at first, but it was pretty easy. I was able to use my bike pump to get the pistons out.
Glad I did it too.. they really needed cleaning up.

I once had a damaged dust seal break up and get pieces of rubber between the pad and rotor somehow. Needless to say, it melted itself all over the rotor and caused a bad pull to one side from the rotor and pad contamination. It's good to keep an eye on them!
