best cooling option
1977 2.7L backdate exhaust and heat
is there an engine cooling benefit to running air through the heat exchangers? will I get better cooling by capping the heater outputs and not running air through the heat exchangers and forcing more air over the enging? on hot days like today (around 98f) my oil temp gets close to 210. I know adding a front oil cooler is the best solution, but thats not in the cards for this summer.

The answer is yes it will cool better. But you don't have a problem, 190-210 is ideal for a street car.

I believe there is a reason that Porsche designed the system the way its...and is not like the VW system that is capped-off. The "dump" valve either brings hot air from the heat exchangers into the cabin...or it dumps it to atmosphere. In either case, there is a need to have flowing air through the heat exchangers ( as designed by Porsche), otherwise they'll presumably get too hot and might make your running temps even worse ( ??).

I have a 1977, 210 degrees freaks me out enough to shift it into a higher gear to let it simmer down. The lower gears/high rev's are too much fun.

210 is not too hot...actually close to 212 so that water and such has a means to escape !! Not a bad temp around 210-220.....
