Won't Start

Now I have done it. I was replacing all of the AC hoses when I decided to remove the cruise control canister on the factory cruise in the "84 911. I disconnected the hoses and put golf tees into the openings to make sure I didn't have any vacuum leaks.

When I lowered the car to move it, it started very rich (lots of smoke, white and fuel smell). It choked off and now it won't start. I thought it was flooded so I waited several hours with no luck.

Any thoughts of where to go next?

How full was your oil tank? My first guess would be based on the smoke you describe is that when you jacked up the rear of the car oil ran into the hose that runs from the oil tank to the air box and when you started the car the intake sucked up a bunch of oil . Take the cover off your air filter housing and look around. Also pull your plugs and see if they are oil soaked. You should have only two hoses on your cruise control. One is a vacumm hose (the smaller of the two) and the other one is just a breather hose.

Thanks Kurt

I had the front jacked up, not the rear. I also had the air filter and cover off.. The oil was cold and could have gotten in, hard to tell.

Have I just fowled the plugs? Should it start if I pull them and clean them out? Or is there another direction to take.

If you jacked the front up I doubt you sucked any oil into the intake. Pull a couple of the easy to reach plugs and see what they look like. Oh, and how many "vacumm" lines did you plug with golf tees? More than the two I mentioned?

Only two lines plugged (cruise control related). I did realize that I lifted the car using the side jack point that did make the right side higher than the left sidel. I am willing to bet it is oil in the intake. The car started with a puff of white smoke followed by a rough run then stall all over a 10 second period. Much like you would expect if oil was on top of the valve and once opened ran rough until the oil fowled the plug. I am going to do the plugs tonight.

Thanks for the wisdom.
