New Beetle owner with the right idea
While surfing for some technical information on my wife's Beetle i happened accross this shot. My wife's car may be getting a ducktail, and some stripes. How about some driving lights on the hood?

And relocate the 1.8T engine/02J transaxle to the back where it belongs!

My wife's New Beetle is faster than all the the SCs in this forum except mine and most the 930s....
Get her some serious mods..... and convert that O2J five speed to a long ratio six with an addon gear set and a .75 OD sixth and she'll' have a 180 mph beast!! How to: http://forums.newbeetle.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=5 and... http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=27

Pumping up that 1.9L tDi would be quite a trick. I'll stick with the mighty 1.8T.... At 125 crank horsepower per liter its hard to beat... with a few mods that is.

A Seattle area friend has a 500hp twin turbo 4 motion (AWD) New Beetle.
A BEAST.

My Mom is on her second New Beetle, ('99 and '04), I prefer the GTI w/ 1.8 turbo. That's a slick package, IMO, VW has a great product line-up now.

Spousal unit's VW is at 205hp. MUCH quicker and with more torque all around than the SC had - This one is about 1/3 hp for our 4 year old daughter

VW really blew it, they had the original pocket rocket concept with the Mk1 Golf GTI in the late 70's in Europe. They handed it over to Honda on a silver platter. It could have/should have been the Golf dominating the "import" scene rather then the Civic. I'll have a Mk5 GTI with the new 2.0L turbo in 4-6 weeks for product development. You won't see that car in North America until later this year. Ralph |

Here's my son's 2000 New Beetle 1.8T. We just had some work done on it, like Eibach springs, Bilstein shocks, bigger swaybars and a 2.5" downpipe and high-flow cat. A chip is in the future, as well as some 17" wheels and a cat-back exhaust. He's hoping for 200+ to the wheels.
![]() And here's the 72 Super Beetle. 17x7" and 8.5" Boxster twists and MaXX struts from Topline parts. Engine is a stock 1600cc with headers, 2.5" "Phatboy" muffler and dual weber 40 IDF's. We're planing a big Type 4 engine and 901 5-speed tranny swap for this one. among other things ![]() VW's are like the "gateway drug" to Porsches, know what I mean. EDIT: My son just remembered a couple of Porsche style New Beetle parts from Japan from 3T Motorsport. They call it "Beepor".

When I saw "had the right idea" I was going to see one pushed off a cliff, which is what I would like to do with mine. Actually, it was my wife's, but it had so many problems that I had to get her a different vehicle to replace it. Because it was leased, it is basically a 3000 lb paperweight taking up space. Here you see it in it's spot-outside where it belongs. We use it now for grocery runs mainly. It's on it's second 2.0 engine and burns more oil than my 911. That's not counting how much oil it pukes out on the driveway.
[IMG] [/IMG] I'll admit that VW has covered the repairs needed, even after the warranty expired, which was nice I guess. But this car has been in the shop sooooo many times that it's not worth it, even with free repairs. Oddly, despite all this, while returning from the grocery store we talked about how it would be neat to have a new black bug convertible with whale tail and white "coves" painted on the sides and a plate reading "SHAMU". |
