CIS fuel pumps

Hi Guys.

I need to replace my fuel pump on the '79SC.

Can I use the one off my spare parts car which is a '82SC? I believe it's got a larger diameter fitting for the fuel line connections, but other than that are they similar enough to use.

My concerns are they might have different fuel presures or something else?

Thanks, Bill.

Thanks Ron and Vash. Ummm, Tuesday night on the way home was definetly time for plan b. The car broke down along the motorway on the way home from work. But it could have been worse, I could have got smacked into by another car while I waited two hours for the tow truck...

So I thought "well this is a good time to replace the fuel pump, and re-do the starter motor, AND the alternator...".

I noticed it was a different part number but I thought this may be due to the different fuel lines only?

Bet it will work if you can figure out how to mount it. My '74 pump works fine with my 78/81 hybrid euro spec+ 3.0 liter.

not for nothing. but I also replaced the elec part of the ignition sw because the car had over 100k mi. I keep the old good sw as a spare. screw it, I operate as if the car has parts that will wear out. I'd rather rr now than a pia later.

Good thinking Fred, sorry, Flintstone. The price difference is way different to the '79 one which suggests it's different, so if it works for you, this one should work for me ("I hope", I say quietly to myself).

Pretty much any CIS pump will work on any CIS car. You just have to find a way to connect it. We usally leave the 2.7 CIS pump in there if doing a 3.0 swap. They will all peg my fuel pressure gauge at 125 PSI. Pressure is regulated by the return line on your CIS. In extreme circumstances like a turbo you may run out of volume but not on your normally aspirated 3.0. Porsche just added an extra fuel pump for the turbo.

I even have a Porsche fuel pump on my 81 CJ7. I put a fuel injected engine from a 99 Wrangler in there. Very similar power to weight ratio to an SC.

Thanks Guys! I feel a lot more confident about swapping in the '81 fuel pump. And I'll look at that ignition switch thing too Ron as the car has about 210,000 miles on it.
