Angry Rear hub removal

Mayday Mayday!.My weekend project of replacing a rear wheel bearing has ground to a halt. I have removed the driveshaft/CV joint assembly, and the brake caliper and disconnected the brake cable. But I cannot get the hub out. I tried a slide hammer bolted to the wheel studs but the bloody hub seems to be solidly attached still. Am I missing something or is there more of a trick than brute strength to getting the thing to come out?. All advise will be gratefully recieved.

strength helps. the way i do it is with a couple of stout, long prybars, like two footers. one on each side of the flange, tips against the bolt heads, and pull it off. hard to do on jack stands, as you could pull the car off, so have only that side lifted. two or three oofs and it's off.

Thanks for the advise, that sounds like a good method, I'm off to get some prybars and then I'll get someone to lend me some extra 'oofs'.Tune in again later for an update.

Brute strength is definitely required. Finesse will not get the hub out. I had to wail on mine so hard that it cracked the casting on the portion of the slide hammer that attached to the hub...

You must aply equal force to the flange on either side. If you use a slide hammer, it must be on something that goes thru the middle of the hub shaft. If there are enough people around, do both at the same time. I drove mine out from the inside using a 3/4 drive socket on an extension.
