Whats the point of keeping the charcoal filter? can I just remove it and then vent to fenderwell?

You can, but don't be surprised if you start smelling gas fumes in the cabin.

Keep it. Charcoal filter is there for a purpose. It stops the fumes from escaping to the atmosphere and creating further green house gases.

No, I'm not an environmentalist. I just think that the 1 lb that the canister adds isn't that big a deal in the over all view of things.

Hi:

Just be sure to inspect it because I found in my car carbon pellets in the hose that connects the canister to the filter. I think they were reaching the engine. Maybe it is broken inside. Never checked it because I put a filter in this hose when turbocharged the engine.

Keep it - it isn't the CO2 emissions that it stops but the nastier pollutants -- if you aren't careful they will wind up in your face. It costs a fair amount of $$ to get the parts to backdate these things. The easiest thing is to just leav it alone.

Oh, also, if your state does inspections (or will strt in the future, and nearly all are in that category) your life will get hellish real quick when they see it missing -- and they will sooner or later. People think the bozos doing the inspections don't care or don't know, but every few years the states sweep thru and fix these issues (usually right before EPA does a review of the state).

So if you have a burning desire to kill it off, make it look absolutely stock everywhere in the car that a concours inspector could see, cause you will eventually deal with that.

I removed mine two years ago from my slant nose. After relocating the oil cooler to the right rear brake duct there wasn,t any room for the charcoal canister. I simply took the small hose from the tank vent and slipped itside the big hose to the aircleaner. Car runs great, no gas smell either.
