Question Odometer Jumps-Need New CD-'88 930

Does this mean the Perma-tune electronic ignition is going out? if so, do I need to get the one with the coils or could it be the bosch coils are bad...

Is the engine stuttering along with the tach?

No? It is more likely that a dirty or loose connection in between the TD terminal on the CD and the back of the tach ...

Just how regular or how often is the 'jumping' happening? Every time the engine is running? If it is only happening at low revs ... when does the behavior change in the rev range?

Only an oscilloscope or logic analyzer could tell for sure if the signal at the tach is good or intermittent ...

It could be strictly an internal tach problem, too!

I do not know as I am buying the car and the guy that inspected it told me that it is doing this...thus, I am unsure of what the problem really is but he thought it could be the cd in it...he said the permatune cd's cause this before they go out completely...it is only doing it at low rpm...
