I can't read my dip stick well ... mods?
What can be done?
Cut cross lines on it? Burn the metal blue? Paint it? |
I would carefully notch the sides with a file. If that doesn't help, I'd consider making a new dipstick that bends into a slight C between the top and bottom mark or is wider and has two holes in the top and bottom mark locations.
That's actually a good point. Maybe someone should start making aftermarket dipsticks. Lighter than stock ;) and easier to read! Oh, you are talking about the marks, right, not the way the oil shows on the stick? I have trouble reading my dipstick. But that's because I can't see the oil. It is too clear. I am so paranoid about changing oil, that it never really gets much discoloration before I change it! George |
Look for the reflective wetness of the oil after wiping it off real well and dipping it.
If you are looking for the color of thin clear oil you are going to have a hard time no matter what you do to the stick. |
how about taking it to a machine shop and letting them put a rough finish on it with some light sandblasting? maybe the diff texture will let you see the oil easier. dont know if the extra "tooth" will let the oil climb a bit and give you a deeper reading.

I like the idea of an aftermarket stick with holes. George |
