Well, I live in Okc, the car has been on their site for a quite a while. I haven't seen the car in person but if you're interested in the car definitely call and talk to them about it. The yellow 993 cab they had finally sold on Autotrader for less than the advertised price on their website.

I talked to them about a part and then saw this on their site. I like the color and it seems to have the right parts. Is the "wide body" an option like turbo look?

The carrera S 993 has a wide body, essentially what turbo look used to be. It is a pretty rare model, and a good one. BE SURE to have the car pre-purchase inspected by a qualified shop, as many here will tell you. It can save you from making a big financial mistake.
I'm not up on the values of these, you should probably do some more research on values. For example, there is a porsche market letter specifically dedicated to porsche values that gets published regularly. If you search google for "porsche market letter" I think you will find more detail.

Max, there may be alignment problems or paint match. If it was bad the cost would not allow fixing.
Kobalt, I did this with my current '86 Carrera and still had problems. It is the only way to buy though. |

That's not high mileage. Price is ok. C4S's usually bring a little more, so this does not sound like a bad deal. Description is a little silly. Anyone who knows 993's knows the "features" of this car. A good PPI would be in order.

I would definitely recommend a PPI, they do list on their ads whether the car is a repaired "salvage/insurance" title car. This one says it has a clean title. I can give you the names of 3 places to have a PPI done if you get serious about the car.

Plain thanks for the info. I must get serious about making more money first but I was just wondering whether to put 5-7,000 in my '86 or by a newer car.
Richard, since you own both a Carrera and a 993 is there much difference in cost to own, parts, repairs, tune...? |

There was a C4s 1997 with about 60K miles for sale for $38K on Rennlist in Michigan somewhere!.
- Now thats a deal! The 993 Carrera 4 and 2 'S' was essentially the same as the 993tt but without the turbo in that it was not just a subtle wide body but has the turbo brakes suspension, wheels etc. It could also be ordered with the fixed turbo tail, to make it totally identical in appearance to the turbo. I think it may also have had the turbo seats?. - Very nice car!

993's are probably cheaper to own than Carreras. But the temptation to do mods is just a killer. I saw a guy on Rennlist say he spent $240 last year in oil changes for his 993 and $8k in mods. So maint. was not the problem. With a 993 you have no valve adjustments, you have no spring plate bushings to go bad, no torsion bars that rust, you get a/c that actually works and a very peppy engine. Downside is that engine drops require an alignment after reinstall and on a C4 you have a little more drivetrain to deal with.

IIRC, the $38k C4S had a 'story'. the details escape me at the moment. It still may have been a very good deal
and, just to clear up a few other things in twin plugged's post. 'but has the turbo brakes suspension' -the 4S has the Turbo brakes, the 2S doesn't. -the shocks/ struts / springs are the same as the standard Carrera, not the Turbo. Unless the m030 option was ordered Sway bars for the Turbo came in a unique F/R combination because of the greater rear weight bias. "wheels" -the 4S came with a sollid spoke version of the TT twist wheel -the 2S came with 17s standard, and hollow spoke TT twist wheels "I think it may also have had the turbo seats" -sport seats were optional on all models, including the Turbo. (although they were standard on the rare Turbo S) the 'aerokit' option provided a rear tail similar in appearance to the Turbo's. (as well as a deeper lip spoiler and sideskirts) there was an 'aerokit' and 'aerokit 2' to further complicate things. cheers, max

So does the a/c in the 964 "not work" compared to the 993? I looked at the diagrams and thought they were pretty much the same design/system?

This is good information. I can see the advantages. My car needs some rust repair and the air is not working. The engine is still strong. I don't think I can keep two cars. Maybe I should wait untill the C2S becomes more affordable.
