I just did this for the first time. It was a 1/2 day job really taking my time. This was the first thing I did after I bought my 82SC and it was pretty easy. I even did it without instructions!

1) undo the philips screws on either side of the black rubber strip on the very front of the bumber. The strip then slides off and exposes several (4?) nuts holding the bumper on. Remove nuts.

2) undo the accordian bumper nuts attached to the front bumper (you only need to remove the nuts attached to the front bumper 2 per side if I remember correctly)

3) Pull bumper off. I didnt remove or unattach any lighting. I just pulled the bumper off a little and rested it on two buckets.

4) Remove the screws holding the "smile" on. 2 on either side (under) and four or five accessed from the inside front of trunk.

5) Pull the smile off, attach the new one and bolt everything back together.

It was an fairly easy job for me (a novice) so you shouldnt have any problems. The end result looks great!

I think I paid about $120 for the new smile part.

Hate to tell you this, but if you only had two bolts on the under part of the fender on each side, you have some rusted bolts still attached. Each side has four bolts to it. The most common to rust and break is the one inboard to the fender right at the edge... Just an FYI...

Wow,Lots of great advice on this project. Now my 0.02cents worth. This BB has a lot of DIY members. There is a lot of satisfaction in working on your car. If you think that you could injoy doing hobby projects on your car, get to it. Do you have tools? You only need the basics for this job, go to sears. Set aside plenty of time to do this job. As a rule things will come up makeing the project seem more diffuclt, just the way it is. Don't get frustated. These small projects also give you the chance to clean places on your car that rarely see daylight. There are also lots of threads on tools and other basic things on this BB . The only warning I can give you is that working on your P car can become like a crack habit, so maney parts out there and so little time. Best of luck, Randy

I can hardly believe the amount of information I got from this thread. I will not do the job myself. My nephew will do it. He owns his own shop and is quite skilled. As he has no experience with Porsches, so he asked me not get as much info as possible.

With all the info I got in this thread he should have no problem. I will be his "helper"
