Well, at least I stuck with a flat engine!

Hey everyone,
Well, I'm pretty darn excited and just had to share it. I just bought my first new car ever about 30 minutes ago. It is a WR blue Subaru WRX Imprexa wagon. There was a crack in the windshield which is being repaired so I couldn't drive it home immediately, but they said I might have it by tonight, so if I get it home I'll post some pics of it with the 911. It was either that or fix the A/C in the RSA which just wasn't gonig to happen... better to pull it out and save a hundred lbs. Plus hte kids (great dane and greyhound) are getting a little big for the 911, although, surprisingly, they still fit in it pretty well.
It was time to get a more practical car, and I'd sold my saturn about a year ago. I'd always wanted a turbo, but knew I'd kill myself in a 911 turbo. It's a blast to drive too, it does not in any way handle like a station wagon.
Anyway, like I said, just had to share the excitement.

Andrew

Good choice, nice autocross car. :)
You could have done worse and bought a vanhttp://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/pukeface.gif

As long as you're keepin' the 911...

ubiquity0 07-19-2004 08:18 AM

Don’t let the 911 get jealous. Ask Nostatic ;)

wastintime 07-19-2004 08:35 AM

Oh yeah, I wouldn't lose the 911 for anything. I actually had to battle with my Fiancee to get this car, she wanted something really practical and big, and after... only 4 months I finally got her to agree to the Impreza. I'm saying I won't ever track it, but a few years down the road, I'm sure it'll be stiffer, have big brakes, and a bigger intercooler.

I tried to talk my wife into one of those, but we settled on a Altima 3.5SE instead. I still wish we could have gotten the Scuby.

My wife knows if I can not find a diesel car that I like and can afford when it comes time for my next car there will be an STi in the driveway.

She is hoping I will not find the VW Passat B6 TDI as ugly as I do now when I actually buy :)

you'll dig the scoob...they're a great buy.

you can even power a 911 with one...and get a better weight bias to boot.

"...she wanted something really practical and big..."

Um... since when is "big" practical? Unless you have a large family and tons of gear to haul around on a regular basis.

i followed the exact car, on my autoX run. it was not good for my ego. great car, everyone else was packing up to leave and he just turned on his AC and drove home. it was great.

Welcome to the LMPBWIROIAHTGTIDMS club! :)

(Love my Porsche but when it's raining or I absolutely have to get there I drive my Subaru)

rick-l 07-19-2004 01:00 PM

great choice if not similar to my own taste.

1988 Carrera Cab
2003 WRX
1991 Audi 90 quattro 20V
1981 Rx-7 <--- my first new car

All get driven almost everyday

wastintime 07-19-2004 01:23 PM

Jon,
I love that, the "illegitimate nephew".
As far as big being practical, when you have a great dane... lol, big is very practical. Plus anything bigger than a 911 is more practical.

jkarolyi 07-19-2004 01:30 PM

Funny, as soon as people have one child or a couple of dogs they think they need a mammoth Suburban as a practical car! Rubbish...that Subie has all the room you need. Haul around less junk!

Subies are great...get a sport muffler for it and you can hear it howl like a 911. :)

wastintime,

Was that you cruising up and down Meeting St on Thursday night?

I walked from the Hampton Inn to the Market and then to Sticky Fingers for dinner and a beer?

Want to meet me for dinner there next week?

djmcmath 07-24-2004 08:09 AM

Good call -- I have a lot of friends who drive Subies and love 'em. I'm a big fan of boxer engines, myself, though that's about the only similarity I can find when migrating from my 911 to my room-mates Outback. :) Congrats to ya!

Michael, lol, that wasn't me, and least I don't think it was. It was probably Loren Stender if it was a 911.
We really ought to try to get a few 911 owners to meet somewhere and get together for dinner or something in charleston, because i know the local PCA region kind of sucks and doesn't really do much.

Well, I said I was going to post some pics of the Subie, and I finally got around to taking some, I wish I'd brought my digital camera to the party I was just at, we had a display of all the cars from our shop. We had a G. red factory slant nose as the centerpiece, then my bosses Burgandy '71 E, My subaru (we had enough 911s, so the RSA stayed home), a customer's '87 carrera with a brand new $8k paint job, and another guy at the shop's 944. Would have been a great photo if I'd remembered the damn camera.

Oh well, here's the new car next to the sadly covered RSA:

hmmm, it just let me upload that 200k image, but I can't upload the next one because of the size limit, weird...
oh well, here it is in a small version

The sti sport muffler, and the performance gauge pack are probably the two options I'm going to add as soon as I can.

1973911s 07-24-2004 07:43 PM

Andrew,

There was a guy in the exact same car, must have seen him on Meeting St 5 times that night.

I will be in Charleston on the night of the 28th, meeting at Bayside on the 29th, and out on the 4:30 Delta.

go go scooby power. I love mine. Its funny, I get alot more questions and thums up when driving the wrx tham the 930. I blame this on all the new car mags featuring evos and stis. Many a 18 year old kid think these cars are the ultimate.

aschen 07-25-2004 08:07 PM

PS skip the sti muffler and get a turbo back exaust. Youll get an aditional 25 hp for 800$. Check out naisoc forums for lots of good reading. Im going to get a turbo back exaust and cobb accesport ecu tuning device. 230 Hp (50 more than stock)at the wheels for around 1500.
