Don't buy the eBay "cheapies", the black comes off even if you use the soft socket!

gotta buy quality nuts. no e-scam bs..

if that is the socket with the plastic insert.. they will perform great on new nuts unless you abuse the socket. Don't waste a good socket on rounded edge nuts. I use them like their waiting for me to overload them.. even tighten and loosen using a gentle start and gradual increase in torque without stopping. I did it right on the second set.. never seize the threads and nut mating surface. Do an initial Zig-zag till 40-50lb.ft. Then do the 95lb.ft. on the second zig-zag in one continuous motion. My nuts still hang nice after 50k mi of weekend wrenching.

I just bought some black one from Pelican a couple weeks ago. I stayed with the OEM black and Porsche wheel locks.

I noticed that Perf. Prods. has "Black Nickel" lug nuts - I know that Pelican can likely get them, but what exactly are they and what do they look like?

Another idea is to paint, powder coat or black anodize the ones you already have.

Randy,

My nuts have been twisted, nicked, and dropped, and yes, I am talking about on my car. They are past the point of a paint.

Then it is time to replace them. You can start looking at wrecks, or just pony up the moola.

IMHO ... the best lug nuts were OEM production ... 25 - 37 years ago!

I have a bag of unused current OEM, and the supplier or process has changed, because the details of the finish is nothing like the 'old' nuts! The old nuts were hard anodized and shiny ... like a high-quality black anodized heat sink, and assuming no careless use of impact wrenches or dirty sockets on a torque wrench ... they stayed beautiful for years! The current production nuts come loose in a bag of 20, and handling makes the finish dull and 'frosty' ... or did I get Chinnese counterfeits?

The best soft socket, hands down, is the Stoddard forged aluminum tool. Reliefs protect the sharp edges of the hex nuts!

Unless the lug nuts are rounded off and need to be replaced, just get a black permanent marker and touch up the black where needed.

Do what Kurt said.

I've been doing the same thing for years. Works great if you want black nuts. You can get to 90% of the your nuts while the wheels are still on the car. You can't see the other 10%.

And, for some reason, the Magic Marker or Sharpie ink doesn't chip or flake and you can touch them up anytime. Cheap and good solution.

I've also used it on the front valance to cover up little stone chip dings. Of course it helps if the car is black.
