autocross, bay area island style
the alameda ggr autocross is set for this weekend, not if but which of you bay area pelicans are going? lets try to arrive, or meet up there at the same time so we can try to get in a common run group. its pretty easy if we register at the same time. this way we can work and rest at the same time, and keep one another in line. well, help keep me in line any way.
anybody care to make this happen?

Im pretty sure the run groups are based on the class you run, right? I'll be up there hopefully. My drive-shaft seals are all toasted, a CV is on its last legs, and God only knows what will fail me next. Im gonna have some long nights ahead of me this week I think.

i will be there. i never said i would attend the candlestick or golden gate field events, infact i declared my non attendance due to crummy asphalt conditions at both venues.
matt you are correct in the run group thing to some extent. if you request a certain run group they will place you there. the key is registering at the same time and requesting it. they may deny us but if we are organized in our pleas they may play along. i think dan, cliff and i will run together either way, being that we all pilot the much bally-hooed SC. cliff will you be running improved (KI) class? cop to your mods grasshopper....... i have to go improved due to a strut brace.

I hope the new classification system goes through. It's much more realistic. I run in Ki also, and the amount of mods allowed is kinda ridiculous compared to what I have. Cliff, you better watch out, basically any variation from stock puts you in improved. Although I won't tell if you won't.
![]() Toby, I thought you said you were going to go to candlestick, guess I was wrong. What's wrong with the asphalt, anyway? You mean you don't like hitting your head on the roof when you go over bumps at 40+mph? ![]() What's the surface like at alameda? Concrete or asphalt? Dan ![]()

its concrete and very tightly placed asphalt that has been well preserved with a chip type slurry. very flat, lots of room, and best of all NO big rocks from the unraveling of asphalt. after the 1st 10-15 runs the course clears out nice.
i have heard they rate, alameda best, candlestick, next and ggf last. infact i have spoken to autocross junkies that wont even go to ggf.

Yea, I think Alameda is the best pavement around. Marina is good too (south) but not as sticky. Alameda probably rewards sticky tires a lot more than say golden gate fields. The guys with race tires don't get as much advantage at GGF, but at alameda...
Looks like my friend (and PCA member) is going to come out and play with his Diablo. First time AX'er. Should be interesting...

Diablo as in Lamborghini? Did I even spell that right? That should be entertaining. I can't wait to see!

my pops brought his z06 out at the last alameda event for his first ax. he liked it but my mom wont let him come and play in "her" car again. i regress, he kept spinning, not like we most often do by coming into the corner too hot, but applying too much throttle out of the corner and breaking the rear end loose. to have 385 hp and an unburdened of motor rear end....
hey anyone going have an easyup? one of those canopy deals?

Diablo, Modena, Esprit, Enzo, CGT, it doesn't matter.... none of them are as fast as the 914s.

Not to say that a well set up 914 isn't fun to watch, it's just a different type of spectacle. The 914 is precision and efficiency when done properly, whereas the GT3 is loud and burly and totally excessive on an autocross course. Dan ![]()

My buddy Alex runs a black 964-turbo and is a really good driver, autox and track alike. He had Hank Watts as his copilot at a PCA AutoX one day and Hank says to him, "On this next run, I want to see people running from the course in fear and terror". Like rats from a sinking ship, thats exactly what happened. I love watching that guy run.
There is a funny Lambo-at-AutoX story here: http://www.riceboypage.com/shame/hall_of_shame_8/hallofshame8.html Im stoked to have the chance to see a Lambo at an AutoX event, I can't wait. Hopefully he'll push it hard enough for everyone to enjoy.

I'm a late comer to this thread, but I'll be at the autocross early on Saturday! My wife and I are working tech, so we'll have the rest of the day to relax and drive while you poor saps are standing out on the course chasing cones... whoops, did I say that out loud??
![]() Hope to finally meet you all. We're 806 and 908 - white cab. Cheers, Dean
