Current Stereo Recommendations/Manual

I have a 1987 Targa and I need to replace the stereo. Any good recommendations for an MP3/CD player. I did look at the Blaupunkt Phoenix but it is a little "busy" for me.

Also, I'm looking for an owners manual and I'm not having much luck - any suggestions?

Thanks,
P.

P,

I have always been an Alpine man. Check out their offerings. I imagine you won't be disappointed.

Also, I assume you are talking about an owner's manual for your 911... check out our host. I bought mine from them.

I just bought this one at best buy for around $160 with installation. It plays MP3 CD's, and has an aux. input so i can plug my iPod into it. very happy with it, PM me if you want pics of it in the car or more details.

Not thrilled with in dash CD players. My lovely state is 3rd to the last for road conditions. My new Blau skips! I will be installing a changer under the hood.

pgrunwald,

The best looking in-dash I've found is from Nakamichi. The new CD-400 looks fantastic in a 911 and doesn't have any of the Disco stuff. Unfortunately it doesn't support MP3 but it does have Aux Input for an iPod, etc.

Thanks for all the replies folks. After a lot of looking around I ended up with an Alpine CDA-9831. It sounds great, I can adjust the color, plays MP3/WMA, and is expandible if I want to go crazy later on with XM Radio, amps, etc. I was able to get a local shop to match internet price so I got it for $350 out the door, installed.

The bad news is that now that I have some power, the front door speakers are buzzing - I think they are the originals. I replaced the back speakers a couple of months ago with the Blaupunkt PCxt462, mainly because it was the only, thin, 4x6 that came with a grill (the Blaupunkt blue even matches the car!) - the originals were shot.

I'm willing to spend a little more on the front speakers to get some bass (not boom!) - what are current recommendations for 5 1/4" front speakers?

Thanks again,
P.

pgrunwald,

What did you take out? If you have an 80's Blaupunk, I might be interested in buying it from you?

Michael, I have an 80's blaupunkt CD/receiver wtih new mounting kit and harness, but the display is not working correctly. It works fine otherwise. I believe it can be fixed.

I like the iPod - it's just a security thing for me with a Targa. I can get 100 songs on a CD for $.10 and I iPod is $300 and I need to carry it around in addition to a deck that has an external AUX port. I have a Palm that plays MP3 and I considered an adapter but an MP3 capable head-end was just an good compromise.

svonkampen -- Weren't you just posting on the best stereo for a 911???

You will never get top quality sound with an ipod. You may not care, but the two are at odds - lossy compression is not gonna get high quality.

P,

If you're still looking for fromt speakers, you won't go wrong with MB Quart. They make the finest speakers available, for the money. You can find a nice set of 5 1/4 separates that will give you the sound you want.

Glad you chose an Alpine!!

I picked up a new set of 5 1/4" MB Quart speakers on EBay. Good speakers and they fit better, seems there isn't a lot of space in the door panel for the average door speaker.

Somebody (I think it's D Hanson) has got one of these or one like it. Doesn't get much better or classier.
