Hurry, please help- No oil cooler to trombone setup?

Hi,

Quick question. I might be able to buy a used oil cooler setup, but I only have a couple of hours to decide because the dismantler who brought them down for me to check out, doesn't live in Texas (I just got his message that he was in the area).

My '73S doesn't have an oil cooler, so compared with my current situation of having no front fender mounted oil cooler, will a trombone cooler keep my temperatures under 210 on warm days? Right now on hot 95+ degree days, the oil will hit 230 at which point I will slow down.

He said that the thermostat is still attached to the lines, should I be worried that they might be fused together?

Money unfortunately is a factor, so I can't afford a Carrera oil cooler for the time being. BTW, what's a fair price for the lines and thermostat?

its gotta be better than no loop cooler. is the 73 oil tank not in front of the rear wheel though? that would require different plumbing id think???

i think $400 to $500 is very fair price.
Including trombone cooler.
rear hoses to thermostat.
thermostat, and hoses to front

my loop cooler, lines, and thermo were $500 from Parts Heaven.
Yes, the temps should stay under 210 on hot days.

I 've heard of guys paying upwards of $500 for the OEM oil lines with a thermostat, just with the hoop. Having the lines makes it easier to add a proper cooler next year. On my '72 2.4MFI S motor, I ran braided lines to a carrera cooler and it stills get hot on the track (~250). My braided lines came to $400 new (five years ago) with the fittings. My SC still only has the hoop and it does well in town driving but not at the track. If the lines are less than $300, jump on it. HTH

I paid $175 for a used thermostat and $300 for all the lines (engine to thermo, thermo to loop) and a loop cooler. It was all in good shape.

It's a worthy investment.
